Lando Norris receives ‘unbelievably excessive’ penalty in dramatic Qatar Grand Prix

obtained a shock 10-second stop-and-go penalty which despatched the driver from second to final place in direction of the tip of a dramatic .

Norris was penalised by the stewards for failing to decelerate in double-waved yellow flag situations on the principle straight, whereas particles from a damaged wing-mirror was strewn throughout the observe.

Race chief observed that Norris didn’t decelerate behind him, alerted his Crimson Bull staff and the stewards ultimately made their name.

Jenson Button, the 2009 world champion, described the decision as “unbelievably excessive” on commentary for Sky Sports activities F1. Norris was in a state of shock at being instructed of the penalty, saying over staff radio: “For what?”

It meant Norris needed to cease within the pits, costing him a internet 35 seconds within the race, although he did battle again to complete tenth whereas Verstappen gained the race.

But it meant Ferrari took the battle for the constructors’ title to the ultimate race subsequent week in Abu Dhabi, as Charles Leclerc completed in second place.

McLaren haven’t gained the constructors’ title since 1998 however now have a 21-point lead heading into the ultimate grand prix.
