Tsunoda reveals confusion over misheard “beaver” radio message

Yuki Tsunoda revealed he misheard a radio message warning a few free mirror on the monitor throughout the Qatar Grand Prix and thought he’d been advised there was a beaver.

The RB driver endured a irritating afternoon on the Losail Worldwide Circuit as he slipped down the order after a very good opening lap to complete thirteenth following a failed gamble to run tender tyres within the closing levels.

However talking afterwards, he admitted to some confusion involving a mid-race message from his pitwall about what proved to be the free mirror from Alex Albon.

Requested by Motorsport.com if he had seen the mirror, Tsunoda stated: “Was it mirror? I heard beaver.

“My engineers stated: ‘There is a beaver.’ However why is there a beaver within the Center East? Like how is it potential a beaver is within the Center East?

“However okay, possibly there is a shock with international warming – kicking a variety of attention-grabbing issues within the Earth.”

Crimson Bull boss Christian Horner joked afterwards concerning the distinction between listening to mirror and beaver: “That’s fairly a change….”

Tsunoda admitted that he had not seen the mirror, however felt that the double yellows which had been introduced out due to it weren’t being noticed by all drivers.

McLaren’s Lando Norris was given a 10s stop-go penalty, for which he accepted fault after ending tenth within the race.

“There was the double yellow and a few vehicles behind did not actually comply with it,” he stated.

“So now we have to revise that within the subsequent drivers’ briefing that some driver does respect it, and a few driver does not respect it. That is very unfair.”

Lack of race tempo
