CEO insists the stewarding system in wants a shake-up and believes full-time officers have to be carried out as quickly as potential.

The American government added that McLaren, who , can be happy with paying a proportion in direction of the salaries of full-time stewards.

Former F1 race winner was by the this week following criticism from Max Verstappen’s father, Jos, final yr. F1’s governing physique acknowledged Herbert’s function as a pundit was “incompatible” along with his function as an official within the sport.

In the mean time, F1 stewards are unpaid volunteers with solely their bills lined by the FIA. But Brown believes all 10 groups, F1 and the FIA ought to work collectively to fund a gaggle of full-time race officers.

“The most important factor we have to do is strategy the stewarding system,” Brown stated, on the Autosport Enterprise Change this week.

“To have part-time, unpaid stewards in a multi-billion-dollar sport the place all the pieces is on the road to make the precise name… it’s a technical job and if you get it proper, nobody says ‘nice job’. However I don’t suppose we’re arrange for achievement by not having full-time stewards.

“The people are positive however the rulebook is simply too restrictive. I’d like us to take a step again, loosen it up. Have full-time stewards who could make extra of a subjective choice of whether or not that was proper or mistaken.”

Brown added that if F1 and the groups need an enchancment in officiating, then they “need to pay for it.”

“So far as paying for the stewards, this can in all probability be unpopular amongst my fellow workforce I am comfortable if McLaren and all of the racing groups contribute,” he stated. “It is so vital for the game.

“It may well’t be that costly if everyone contributes. It isn’t going to interrupt the financial institution. What I don’t know is what’s the connection contractually between the FIA and Formulation 1 so far as what is the degree of expectations on stewarding.

“However on the finish of the day, the settlement says part-time stewarding just isn’t paid. In any enterprise, if you’d like one thing totally different, it is known as a change order and if you wish to change one thing, it’s important to pay for it.

“So if now we have to pay for it, within the huge scheme of issues I don’t suppose it will likely be a big quantity. If it comes again to McLaren the place you pay a proportion and what F1 pays and what the FIA pays, when you break up that price, it isn’t that a lot however I feel it’s that vital.”

The 2025 F1 season begins in Australia on 16 March with a 10-team happening on the O2 Enviornment in London on Tuesday 18 February.
